Ask colleagues and clients about Jill Lawrence and they’ll say she’s super organised and a trusted pair of hands, as well as being a passionate safety representative. She’s a credit to Sodexo, always dependable and the perfect ‘go-to’ person.

Jill LawrenceQ. Tell us about your Sodexo career Jill.
A. I started working at Talisman House in Aberdeen, home of Talisman Sinopec Energy, in 2001. I  TUPE-transferred over in 2004 when Sodexo won the contract. Previously I’d worked in the café bar and in hospitality and stewarding, but in 2007 I had a knee operation and couldn’t continue with my role. I was encouraged to apply for the helpdesk/reception role. In 2012 I was promoted to soft services supervisor. I’ve also been the safety rep and environmental rep at the site since 2006.

Q. Why do you enjoy being part of Sodexo?
A. Because of the people here and the support you receive. I’ve worked with some fantastic people over the years and the team onsite are like family. I have had great support from senior management, safety & environmental reps and can’t thank them enough for helping me progress in my career.

Q. How much was your first pay packet and what was it for?
A. It was £25.00 per week. I used to clean the bakery floor in Norco Berryden after school.

Q. What gadget would you never leave home without?
A. Mobile phone.

Q. What is your ideal job, other than this one?
A. Working with animals.

Q. What or who makes you laugh?
A. My partner Colin. He is like Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up!

Q. What’s your favourite book?
A. The Hobbit

Q. And favourite film?
A. One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest

Q. What is your ideal job, other than this one?
A. Working with animals.

Q. What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
A. Always be polite and have good manners.

Q. Who has been your biggest inspiration?
A. My grandma. She worked hard all her life and was a beautiful soul.

Q. What is your biggest extravagance?
A. I’m not an extravagant person but it would be family holidays to Florida.
