The progress made in Sodexo’s safety performance record in Ireland has received external recognition from the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO).
It came in the shape of the President’s Award at the 26th Annual All Ireland Occupational Safety Awards 2017 in Galway on 13 October.
The President’s Award is one of the top three highest awards presented (from 13 categories) and is usually only achieved over a number of successful years. It reflects measurements across 12 different criteria.
Health and safety head for Sodexo in Ireland, Marie Katherine Mayers, and health and safety advisor for Schools & Universities, Ciaran Butler, attended the event to receive the award.
“We did well in each section and over the last couple of years in Ireland we have had a huge drive and a focus on health and safety,” said Marie Katherine.
“Now, more than ever, safety is absolute priority for everybody, and not just the safety professionals, so the support and commitment from all sections of our company in Ireland contributed.”
She added: “This is a tremendous achievement for Sodexo Ireland that differentiates our business in the current economic environment and supports opportunities to win contracts, tenders and new customers.”
News of the award was published widely in the media and Marie Katherine said:
“The prestige of winning an award provides large scale recognition and will promote Sodexo’s health and safety excellence.
“At this time when we are working diligently to bring about significant changes to our safety culture, it is encouraging to receive an award which benchmarks our performance against competitors in the industry, endorses our health and safety management system and demonstrates a positive corporate governance attitude within Sodexo.”
Marie Katherine said: “I am proud of our colleagues throughout Sodexo whose commitment and support channels these successes.
“We have accomplished significant progress in improving our safety performance and will continue to strive to influence a sustainable shift in our safety culture.”
