Every year, International Women’s Day (IWD) is marked on 8 March. There’s no doubt that women’s rights and gender equality are hot topics at the moment, with the rapidly growing #MeToo campaign and last month’s 100-year anniversary of (some) women winning the right to vote firmly turning the spotlight on the issue.

Yet the alarming fact is that the World Economic Forum has predicted it will take 217 years to achieve gender equality.

So while it’s important to mark IWD, Sodexo is pressing for empowerment of women every single day with the recently launched #IWDeveryday campaign.

Women’s empowerment and gender balance are everyone’s business, so why not get involved in the campaign? There are some great videos to watch, groups to join and activities to take part in. Your managers have a huddle presentation too, so you might find IWD on your huddle agenda soon!

Here are some easy ways you can show your support:

  • Listen to our podcast with Sophie Bellon, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Sodexo.
  • Watch the IWDeveryday video and look out or the posters around your sites.
  • Share the campaign on your social media accounts: Blog, Twitter and Facebook
  • Check out the global Sodexo International Women’s Day page
  • Join the Sodexo Working Parents Facebook group
  • Ask your manager to download the disability quiz from Sodexo_Net and play a game with your colleagues
  • Download the factsheet to understand more about the day as well as Sodexo's commitment on the topic.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Sodexo has a dedicated gender work stream which runs initiatives to encourage gender balance throughout the organisation – WomenWork
  • In 2017, Sodexo was listed in The Times Top 50 Employers for Women for the fourth straight year.
