The world’s most revered race meeting is happening this week (19 to 23 June) and once again a Sodexo team will be keeping racegoers fully fed and watered as they enjoy the action.

Royal Ascot attracts 300,000 spectators over five June days and Sodexo employs over 6,000 temporary staff for the event with 3,000 a day needed to staff the 100+ bars and food outlets and 225 private boxes at the historic Berkshire racecourse.

Michelin-starred guest chefs like Raymond Blanc OBE, Phil Howard and Adam Handling are also working alongside Sodexo’s own top team to produce world-class fine dining.

We’ve got a few new tricks up our sleeve for this year too.

New fine-dining experiences: guests can enjoy four new fine-dining restaurants – The Balmoral, The Windsor Forest, The Furlong Restaurant and The Gallery.

Better staff management: we’re using integrated systems TimeTarget and FLOW, to improve efficiency and more accurately place temporary staff in roles to which they are best suited. FLOW, an e-learning platform, enables staff to brush up on anything from food safety to emergency procedures before arriving on site.

Finger check in: in previous years, it sometimes took as long as 30 minutes to check in staff, leading to long queues. Not this year! We’re using a finger vein scanning solution with allows identities to be securely checked. Employees are then given a wristband with details of their name, shift time, uniform needs and location.

Bespoke products: Sodexo’s top two chefs at Ascot have a special cheese named after them. Dutamor Cheese – in honour of regional executive chef Ben Dutson and executive chef Gemma Amor – is made using the finest sheep’s milk from the Somerset countryside, and served at Royal Ascot.

  • Last year, racegoers downed 142,000 pints of beer and cider, 56,000 bottles of Champagne, 44,000 bottles of wine and 21,000 jugs of Pimm's.
  • Royal Ascot causes quite a social media stir, in 2017 there were 120,000 tweets, 20,000 Facebook check-ins and almost a million video views.
