WasteLESS Week 2018

Time 129 days ago Comments 0 comments

With over 8 million tons of plastic being dumped in our oceans every year and Sodexo banning plastic straws and stirrers as of June, this year’s WasteLESS Week focused was on plastic reduction.

From University College London, to Cyprus and Tillery Valley Foods, there was a huge focus on plastic reduction throughout the business – a huge thank you to all the Sodexo sites that participated in WasteLESS Week!

Some of the initiatives this year saw many of you take plastic reduction a step further by eliminating plastic bags, single use cups and even reducing the volume bin liners used at your sites for the week.

Although WasteLESS Week is held over five days, Sodexo encourage and focus on waste prevention all year-round. Ideas large and small can create huge impact – take our defence retail shops for example. This year Nick Blackmun, defence retail operations manager, used WasteLESS Week 2018 as a catalyst for change, permanently switching single use plastic carrier bags for paper alternatives. This alteration will save over 300,000 plastic bags from circulation a year. He explains how and why he was motivated to make the switch over on our Quality of Life blog – click here to read more.
