As an organisation that actively supports the Armed Forces community in the workplace, Sodexo directly employs many people who have served their country, as well as supporting those who continue to serve as Reservists.

Richard Jones, contract director in our Government & Agencies segment, has responsibility for the entire Sodexo operation on the Hestia South contract. Before this, Richard spent 22 years in the Royal Artillery, joining Sodexo in 2011, having enjoyed a varied career, culminating in his final appointment as Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM).

Richard says that, since leaving the British Army, Sodexo has continued to help him build his career in facilities management: “Sodexo supported me in successfully completing my final year of postgraduate study, achieving an MSc in Facilities Management, as well as helping me to subsequently achieve the industry-leading Lean Six Sigma ‘Black Belt’ qualification.

“Sodexo fully understands and appreciates the transferable skills that military personnel can bring to the commercial world, and supports them in achieving their ambitions”.

On Armed Forces Day, Sodexo will support a national event taking place in Salisbury, working with the armed forces charity SSAFA to host a Big Brew Up, providing refreshments for staff and visitors.

As part of our continued commitment to our Armed Forces, we are setting up a Veterans and Reservists employee network, and want to hear from those Reservists, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, and Veterans in the business who are keen to get involved - please click here to submit your details, and tell us what you want from your network.

And, don’t forget - even if you are not part of the Armed Forces community, you can join in the celebrations through the #SaluteOurForces campaign. Take a picture of yourself or your team saluting our services this week and you could win £50 via Recognising You! Remember to tag @SodexoUK_Ire on Twitter, or share your picture with the official Sodexo UK & Ireland Facebook page. You can also send your photos via email

Each year, Armed Forces Week (22 to 28 June) provides Sodexo with the opportunity to commemorate the Armed Forces across the region, and gives us a chance to celebrate our own Hidden Heroes who are helping the military in a number of different ways.

We will rise again

With the launch of rise with Sodexo, Sodexo Ambassador Matt Dawson takes the opportunity in his last Hidden Heroes video message to thank just some of your colleagues who are already helping our clients to safely reopen their doors.

Hidden Heroes

You are helping us to rise

Last week we saw the launch of rise with Sodexo, our new programme aimed at helping our clients prepare to reopen or be reconfigured to meet the requirements of their new normal. We know that this means the hard work continues for many of you, and for some this work is already underway, so this week we are celebrating our Hidden Heroes who are helping our clients rise with confidence.

This week, you have all been spreading the joy of kindess in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Week (18 to 24 May 2020) and IDAHOBIT (17 May 2020), supporting each other, friends, family and the communities where we operate. This week Matt thanks just a few of our Hidden Heroes truly paying it forward.
