A Sodexo team who look after the grounds at the Surrey research centre of leading pharmaceutical company Lilly has scooped an environmental award.
They earned a silver gilt accreditation in the Business Landscape of the Year category of the South & South East in Bloom competition.
The achievement recognised the work of the team at Lilly’s Erl Wood Research Centre at Windlesham, near Bagshot, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year.
Marks were awarded across eight categories, each with a possible 25 points, and the Sodexo team of supervisor Terry Cash, Jayden Williams and apprentice Bradley Holmes earned 160 out of a possible 200 marks.
The judges were shown around woodland and parkland areas by Terry, and, in their report, commented: “They have biodiversity status and it was a pleasure to have seen such beautiful grounds where works are ongoing and improvements continue to be made.”
Contract manager, Mark Jones, congratulated the team on their hard work and said they had “done wonders” to turn round the site from where it was and showed great enthusiasm for the job.
“It’s a privilege to work with them,” he said. “They are a really good team and go the extra mile for the client, as well doing things off their own bat.
“They constantly drive to deliver quality of service, as recognised by the stiff competition for this award.”
Lilly employs 600 people at Erl Wood working on the discovery and development of new potential medicines. It is recognised as a centre of excellence in neuroscience research.
