Sodexo people generously give up their time to volunteer all year round, with annual Volunteers’ Week (1 to 7 June 2020) gives us the opportunity to shine a spotlight on those who are using their skills, resources and time to make a difference every day.

Hidden Heroes like Retail Supervisor Sandra Padgett who volunteers and fundraises for several organisations.

As a supporter of Stop Hunger, Warminster Foodbank and Julia’s House, Sandra is always coming up with ways she can help. When Sandra started a food collection for Warminster Foodbank, she was overwhelmed by the response, with customers and colleagues alike coming together to help by donating bags of food, toiletries and more. Sandra has even got monthly support from a number of customers who donate £30 to her for purchasing food items for the charity, negotiating a 10% discount at a local retailer for the items purchased.

On a visit to Julia’s House, a hospice in Dorset for children with life-limiting conditions, to present a cheque, Sandra also volunteered to take her horses to the hospice providing the children with the opportunity to ride, all in her own time and at no cost to the charity.

Last Christmas, Sandra continued to pay it forward by collecting blankets, warm clothing and food for the homeless in Bath whilst giving up her Christmas Day to help feed the homeless at a hostel.

In her spare time Sandra also helps-out at her riding club to arrange and support at their fundraising events, including the collection of unwanted tack for The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust twice a year. In recent weeks whilst under the current lockdown, Sandra and her family have rescued a horse called Bear who came to them starving and needing some much-needed TLC.

Sandra has continued to show her love for animals by recently enrolling with a charity that helps rehome dogs that have either been abandoned by their owners or the owners are struggling to look after them. She fosters the in-need dogs until a forever home can be found. Even through the Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis, Sandra has taken her time to foster another dog. She has been finding this very rewarding, despite the heartache that she feels giving up the dogs that she fosters!

Sandra is clearly someone that is demonstrating Sodexo’s values every day by supporting her local community – thank you for being a Hidden Hero.

You are helping us to rise

Last week we saw the launch of rise with Sodexo, our new programme aimed at helping our clients prepare to reopen or be reconfigured to meet the requirements of their new normal. We know that this means the hard work continues for many of you, and for some this work is already underway, so this week we are celebrating our Hidden Heroes who are helping our clients rise with confidence.
