It will not have escaped your attention the media coverage the outsourcing industry has experienced in 2018.

The liquidation of Carillion has obviously been the catalyst, but the industry as a whole is feeling the pain as performance is scrutinised, the value of outsourcing questioned and the reputation of organisations in our industry are put under the spotlight.

We have 36,000 employees in the UK & Ireland providing a range of services at 1,850 client locations. Many of those client locations are in the public sector – hospitals, prisons, defence sites and schools – and they rely on us delivering quality services to their organisation, allowing them to focus wholly on their core business.

We have an excellent client retention rate, which tells me we do deliver those quality services and we do give our clients the assurance and confidence they need to focus all their efforts on their core business, whether that be educating children, providing excellent healthcare or defending the country.

We’re able to do that because of you. We are a people business and our people are our number one asset and it’s why improving the quality of life of our employees is such an important part of our strategy. We recognise and value everything you do and we know that our clients and consumers do too.

Given the pressure our industry is facing at the moment, we understand if you are feeling disheartened, but let me assure you that Sodexo is in a strong place, we’re performing well financially and you can feel proud to work for a business that has an exciting future ahead.

We continue to manage our business prudently; we continue to focus our efforts on improving quality of life for the people we serve; and we continue to hold strong our values and beliefs.

We will not bid for business that puts those fundamentals at risk because they are central to what differentiates us in the market.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the hard work you do, day in day out. You help us make the difference.

While the industry’s having a tough time at the moment, you can be assured that we are working closely with Government to ensure we mitigate the impact on our industry and are able to continue demonstrating the value of outsourcing to our clients in both the public and private sectors.

Thanks for your continued support and loyalty and if you have any concerns whatsoever, please speak to your line manager.

They run a tight ship and recognise the importance of good team work . They are good role models for the team and remind us of the importance of being excellent representatives of Sodexo. With such great team leaders as Sally and Francesca i am happy to have found myself as part of this team.

Voice: it's results time!

Last month, all Sodexo colleagues were invited to take part in our global engagement survey, Voice. We’re delighted to share the results of the survey, which can be used to start conversations within teams about how to address areas for improvement, and how to maintain the good things we’re already doing.

Keeping food allergen incidents at bay

Staying vigilant through change

We’re all juggling responsibilities in the new normal, but as new ways of working become the norm, it can be easy to get complacent with safety. This week, we focus on near misses and hazard spotting - a good way for sites to stay on top of their safety game and prevent potentially harmful accidents from ever occurring.

Be prepared, be safe

Simply asking you to be safe is easy enough, but making sure you feel prepared is another story. Returning to work can be pretty daunting after the year we’ve had so far. Help us help you be prepared with these five safety tips.
