Senior e-communications editor Cara Lester-Smith is usually the lady behind the scenes uploading all your fundraising stories and pictures to Your_Sodexo. But now she’s stepping into the limelight herself, and is in training for the 26-mile South Coast Mighty Hike on 10 June.

Cara is one of a team of eight mums – named the Camelsdale Coast Busters – taking on the challenge to walk from Brighton to Eastbourne to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“Two years ago my nan sadly passed away with cancer,” said Cara. “At the same time my mum was diagnosed with skin cancer. It affects most of our lives one way or another and the Macmillan team does an amazing job in helping to ensure nobody has to face it alone.”

All eight team members are taking the challenge seriously and, in addition to training hard for the hike, they are arranging a number of other events to help boost their total.

“We’re holding a comedy quiz in a local pub with lots of great raffle prizes and our local gym is supporting us with a fundraising event where we’ll be walking the 26 miles between us on a treadmill,” said Cara.

The ladies are looking for support, so if you can spare a little – or a lot (!) – for this great effort, click through to their Just Giving page.
