A Sodexo horticultural services duo working at Unilever Port Sunlight R&D have been commended by contract manager Phil Inman for their swift response to help an elderly man in need.

Will Booth and Simon Harper were working front of house when the gentleman had an accident on the public footpath, resulting in him being thrown from his mobility scooter into the road, sustaining injuries. They stopped work immediately to step in and help, and after assessing his condition, agreed he should not be moved. Thinking quickly, they then parked a Sodexo company vehicle in the road, switching on the flashing beacons and directing traffic to ensure the gentleman was safe from oncoming cars around a sharp corner.

Due to the risk of shock setting in they kept him warm whilst he was on the road and kept him talking to check his condition was not deteriorating while they waited for an ambulance.

Horticultural Services received heartfelt thanks from one of the site clients, Steve Whiteside, who said: “I have had some tremendous feedback regarding Simon and Will. Sadly the gent involved damaged his hip and was taken to hospital, however due to Will and Simon keeping him in high spirits and keeping him comfortable I am sure this assisted while he was waiting for the ambulance.”

Phil, who nominated them for a Star of the Month Award, said: “I could not be prouder of my team for the assistance they gave – it really does go to show that Sodexo employees care about our clients, customers and the general public. This incident demonstrates the very best of Sodexo working in the local community.”
