Sodexo’s Defence & Government Services team in Cyprus had a busy week raising over €450 for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity in early October 2018.
SSAFA has been a charity partner of our Stop Hunger Foundation for more than 14 years, and through the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation we also fund SSAFA's homelessness fund.
The Cyprus team was delighted to organise the fundraiser, which began on day one with the hotly-contested SSAFA charity cake competition, held at the Coffee & Co outlet at Episkopi Station. Sodexo chef Petros Gavriel was one of three judges with the enviable task of tasting all the entries, alongside Sam Illingworth and WO1 John Campbell.
It proved a close call, with the top three entries separated by only a few points. But the winning bake was eventually crowned – an orange carrot cake made by Pte Magar RLC, who won a meal for two.

All the cakes were then safely stored overnight and donated to 2018 Big Brew Up the following day. The SSAFA Episkopi Service Committee hosted the event, which is celebrated worldwide, and has now been sponsored by Sodexo for six years.
The promise of a chance to catch up with colleagues over tea and cake always draws a great response and donations reached a fantastic €452.83.
SSAFA Episkopi Service Committee sent special thanks to everyone who attended the event and gave up their time to support. The money raised will help serving personnel and their families through the work with SSAFA within Episkopi Station.
