Have you made yourself at home?

On 22 September, we saw a reversal of the UK Government’s position on home-working. Having embarked on a pro-active ‘back to work’ campaign over summer, colleagues all over the UK have now been asked again to work from home again if they can.

For Sodexo UK & Ireland, this means a continuation of our pre-September arrangement for those who would normally be based in a central office. As we embark on this longer period of home-working, check out the advice and materials below, taken from the best bits of our Make Yourself at Home campaign from earlier this year.

First, let’s focus on your home-working environment. Try to have an area separate to your living space to work. You might well be comfortable on your sofa, but this isn’t great for your posture!

With a flexible working day and with all our conversations, meetings and social interactions taking place virtually, our laptops and the software contained within them are key – so it’s a good idea to look after them!

It’s everyone’s responsibility to use data properly and safely, and all colleagues must comply with data protection law and other policies and guidance which relates to their role within the business.

Arguably our biggest challenge of the year has been staying connected with other people. The good news is, we can still stay social and keep connected to the groups and communities that matter to us most.

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that this year has been hard on us all. Whether you’re struggling to adjust to the technical side of working from home, the social (or lack of) element or it isn’t working out for you for other reasons, don’t suffer alone.

Reaching out for help doesn't have to be formal. Ensure you make the time to check-in with colleagues regularly - a weekly chat about non work-related topics can be mutually beneficial.

Please remember to make full use of Talk. It’s available 24/7, and open to all colleagues (as well as people living with an employee).
