Since 2014 Sodexo, through the Stop Hunger Foundation, has partnered with Focus Ireland helping to support the charity's services for people who are homeless and those at risk of homelessness.

For the third year running, your Sodexo colleagues supported Focus Ireland's annual Shine a Light Night which is designed to promote awareness of homelessness and raise much-needed funds to improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable people in our communities.

More than 20 Sodexo colleagues slept out in various locations across the Republic of Ireland on Friday 16 October, raising over €14,000 in the process.

In a move to keep people safe, unfortunately this year there was no official locations for the sleep-out. Instead, Focus Ireland asked business leaders, companies, and people all over Ireland to sleep-out safely to help raise vital funds for people experiencing homelessness.

Sodexo's sleep-out stars comprised of senior management, chefs, account managers, along with head office employees and their family members, who all bedded down in sleeping bags and tents in homes, gardens and other socially distanced spaces.

In support of the Sodexo team taking part, Focus Ireland posted a short video to their LInkedIn of David Fox, Managing Director of Corporate Services Ireland, who acted as a Shine a Night Light Business Leader ambassador on the night.

As part of fundraising efforts the team organised the Sodexo Ireland Shine A Light Night Bake Off which was open to everyone and their families. Star Baker awards were made to David Geszler, Marianna Silvestri and Jurgita Zubrickiene as well as to some up and coming family junior bakers!

Thank you to all of our colleagues who took part in both the sleep-out and bake off events alongside clients, suppliers and customers who supported this very worthy cause.

Volunteering to stop the spread

Over the coming weeks, the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS), as well as some local authorities, will be searching for volunteers to support efforts to recover from the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Sodexo is assisting the RVS and UK Government by promoting the opportunities available. Can you lend a helping hand?
