Fairtrade Fortnight 2021 - supporting our coffee growers

Time 74 days ago Comments 0 comments

Sodexo joined forces with the Fairtrade Foundation in 2018 to establish a two-year project aimed at empowering women and addressing food security. The project was funded by our very own Coffee Growers Fund and was created to support families of the Association of Producers of Origin Fruits Bosque del Inca, where Sodexo UK & Ireland sources the beans for our triple certified Aspretto coffee brand.

Through the project Sodexo has been able to support women coffee growers to become more successful and economically independent, helping them to build a more secure future for them and their families.

In 2021, Sodexo is extending this partnership for another three years to support seven small producer organisations in Minas Gerais and Espiritu Santo in Brazil where significant gender inequalities have been identified.

The project will be run by The Latin American and Caribbean Producer Network (CLAC), which represents workers and producers of Fairtrade certified organisations. Its mission is to represent and promote the interests, empowerment and development of its members and their communities.

More than 200 beneficiaries, both men and women, will receive support as part of this work. With our help, CLAC will be able to increase equality by encouraging cultural change to help improve the longer-term sustainability of the producers.

In partnership with our main coffee supplier, UCC, Sodexo is donating £60,000 through our Coffee Growers Fund to the Fairtrade Foundation, helping finance this important work.

If your site operates food services, we’d like you to join us to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight, which starts on Monday 22 February, to help us promote the importance of buying Fairtrade products and coffee, including Sodexo’s exclusive Aspretto Grand Caffee Fairtrade blends.

Fairtrade Fortnight is a time every year when the Fairtrade movement unites. Farmers, campaigners, commercial partners, shoppers, civil society, and the Fairtrade Foundation come together to shine a light on the problems many farmers still face. It is a spotlight moment to show how Fairtrade can be part of the solution and empower more producers around the world.

Last week Sodexo launched its Social Impact Pledge, making this the perfect time to demonstrate how together we deliver positive social impact every day for our People, our Planet, our Places and our Partners.

You can find all the marketing materials you need on the new Fairtrade Retail Ranger page.

Volunteering to stop the spread

Over the coming weeks, the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS), as well as some local authorities, will be searching for volunteers to support efforts to recover from the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Sodexo is assisting the RVS and UK Government by promoting the opportunities available. Can you lend a helping hand?
